Glass
Mirror-like or nearly featureless water with almost no visible ripple.
Calm
Low-energy ripples or small wavelets without organized chop.
Light Chop
Repeated small chop or short wavelets, without developed waves or repeated breaking.
Moderate
Organized wave faces or wave trains beyond short chop, with limited cresting possible.
Rough
Energetic developed waves with repeated substantial breaking or foam-producing fronts.
Very Rough
Rare severe scenes with widespread energetic breaking, chaotic structure, and extensive foam.
